Scope. The Mortal Arcana deck is currently AI-rendered at 768×1152 px (2:3) and exported to web at 640×960 px. This report establishes the real physical print specs (22 Major Arcana now; likely full 78 later) so card art can be re-rendered/exported to the correct dimensions before further generation. Key upfront finding: standard tarot trim is 2.75″ × 4.75″ (70 × 120 mm), whose aspect ratio is 0.579 — taller and narrower than the current 2:3 (0.667) renders. The art is presently the wrong shape for a true-tarot card.

Why 900×1500: 2.75+0.25 = 3.00″ × 300 = 900; 4.75+0.25 = 5.00″ × 300 = 1500. Confirmed verbatim by MakePlayingCards. Some templates use a rounded 2.99″×4.99″ → 897×1497 (QPMN tarot template); metric 3 mm bleed → ~898×1488 (Acelion). Licensing aside (carried from project context): the deck is rendered with dev-Flux, whose license is non-commercial. That is a pre-sale concern independent of any printer — no printer below screens for model-license provenance, but it must be resolved before commercial sale.

2 · The 2:3 Aspect-Ratio Problem (read before re-rendering)

The current renders are the wrong shape for a tarot card. 768×1152 and 640×960 are both exactly 2:3 = 0.667. True tarot (2.75×4.75) is 0.579 — taller and narrower. Placing 2:3 art into a tarot trim requires cropping ~13% off the sides, letterboxing, or (don't) stretching.

⚠️ Two biggest cross-printer gotchas: (1) color space is opposite — Game Crafter wants RGB, DriveThruCards/most offset want CMYK; the same export won't satisfy both. (2) File model is opposite — Game Crafter/MPC take per-card image files; DriveThruCards/Cartamundi take one collated CMYK PDF/X-1a (no PNG). Always download the chosen printer's actual tarot template before final export.

4 · The Pixel Math at 300 DPI

Formula: pixels = inches × DPI (or mm ÷ 25.4 × DPI). Print standard is 300 DPI at final size (PrintNinja).

Trim (no bleed): 2.75″ × 300 = 825 px 4.75″ × 300 = 1425 px → 825 × 1425 px + 1/8″ bleed each side (imperial — RECOMMENDED): (2.75 + 0.25)″ × 300 = 900 px (4.75 + 0.25)″ × 300 = 1500 px → 900 × 1500 px + 1/8″ "practical" bleed (some templates use 2.99×4.99): → 897 × 1497 px + 3 mm bleed each side (metric — note 1/8″ = 3.175 mm, NOT 3 mm): 76 mm ÷ 25.4 × 300 ≈ 898 px 126 mm ÷ 25.4 × 300 ≈ 1488 px → ~898 × 1488 px

The imperial (900×1500) and metric (898×1488) targets differ by ~12 px in height — they are not interchangeable to the pixel, so always match the specific printer's template. Rendering masters at the slightly larger 900×1500 safely contains all three variants. Sources: MPC, QPMN template PDF, Acelion.

Color guidance. AI art is native sRGB; CMYK has a narrower gamut, so vivid neons/cyans will dull on press (Jukebox, Printful). Keep RGB masters, soft-proof CMYK (View > Proof Setup > Working CMYK), use rich black C60 M40 Y40 K100 only for large dark areas (never fine text), and hard-proof before any run (QPMN rich-black guide). Corner radius: ~R3.5–4mm is the tarot norm (Acelion, PrintNinja).

Methodology: five parallel research agents fanned out across web searches, fetched official printer spec/template/help pages and (for Shuffled Ink) measured the actual template PDF at 300 DPI. Pixel figures are taken verbatim where printers publish them, otherwise derived as inches × 300 and flagged. Items marked UNVERIFIED are not on the public spec pages and should be confirmed by direct quote (see §15). This report is for production planning; verify the final template with the chosen printer before committing a run.
